Workshop TitleManual Handling Train the Trainer

Summary of the overall aims of the course

Any workplace activity that involves physical effort (pushing, pulling or lifting) is classed as manual handling. To protect yourself, other staff and your organisation, everyone who may be involved in manual handling should be trained at induction and as a minimum every 3 years.

This course is designed to make delivering manual handling training more cost effective for your organisation by training you to cascade awareness training yourself.

During the course you’ll learn about manual handling and basic training theory. On successful completion of the course, we’ll give you all the materials you need to deliver your training in-house.

Course objectives

At the end of the course you will be able to:

  • Explain the legal responsibilities of employers and employees in relation to manual handling
  • Explain moving and handling injury statistics
  • Describe the structure and function of the human spine
  • Identify the main reasons why handing injuries occur
  • Explain how good posture relates to safe moving and handling
  • Identify potential handling issues within your own organisation
  • Demonstrate the ability to teach moving and handling awareness to a small group, including managing challenging or inappropriate behaviour

Target audience

This course is aimed at you if your workplace has more than 10 staff or multiple departments and you’d like to train a member of staff to cascade train their colleagues. It is ideal for supervisors, HR or Training Dept staff, or anyone who wants to build their training skills.

Please note this course is not suitable for organisations in the health care sector.
