Workshop TitleLevel 3 Award in Health & Safety for supervisors in the workplace

Summary of the overall aims of the course

Workplaces, of all sizes, are legally obliged to ensure the health and safety of the people they come into contact with (staff, customers and volunteers). Failing to do so can incur substantial penalties.

This 3 day Royal Society of Public Health (RSPH) Award programme provides is the mandatory training required for those with responsibility for health & safety in the workplace.

By learning about your legal duties and obligations on this nationally accredited course you will significantly reduce your risk of prosecution, or other sanctions including HSE fees for intervention.

Course objectives

At the end of the course you will be able to:

  • Identify the requirements of health & safety legislation and how it is enforced
  • Describe the health & safety responsibilities (including training) of employers, employees and supervisors
  • Specify the key elements and benefits of safety management systems and information distribution strategies
  • Identify the main hazards in the workplace
  • Describe a range of control measures for risks from hazards
  • Conduct a workplace risk assessment, including identification of safe working practices
  • Explain why and how workplace health & safety should be monitored

Target audience

The law requires every organisation to have at least one person, depending on the size and nature of your undertaking, trained in health & safety. This course is intended to help managers and supervisors of all levels, up to and including Directors meet this obligation.

It is also ideal for anyone with an interest in health & safety, seeking a formal qualification.


Conforms with the Health & Safety at Work Act (HASAW) 1974 and all other secondary legislation.

Assessment Method

To successfully pass the course, delegates must pass a multiple choice exam paper externally set by the RSPH
