Workshop TitleKeep it clean: Basic food safety training

Summary of the overall aims of the course

Food hygiene regulations set out the basic standards for any workers handling food (including pre-packaged foods). The regulations require that food handling staff should receive food hygiene training. Failing to adequately train staff has lead to a number of organisations receiving enforcement notices, low hygiene ratings and ultimately fines.

Food hygiene training ensures your customers (and your reputation) are protected from food poisoning and your organisation is protected from sanctions.

Course objectives

At the end of the course delegates will be able to:

  • explain the importance of effective food safety procedures
  • list common sources of food contamination
  • identify effective personal hygiene practices for food safety
  • describe your roles & responsibilities in ensuring food safety including:
  • dealing with spillages,
  • storage temperature,
  • cleaning, and
  • reporting hazards

Target audience

This short course is ideal for anyone who comes into contact with or handles food (including pre-packed foods) as part of their job. It is ideal if you are new to food safety training or you completed a Level 2 Food Hygiene course in the past and want to up-date your training.

This course is not suitable for kitchen supervisors. Those in charge of food environments should complete the Level 3 Award in Food Safety.

This course is not an accredited qualification, but would be deemed adequate training for those with a more junior role in food preparation, or those working solely with low risk foods.
