Frequently Asked Questions

What kind of business should I set up as?

The most common ways of setting up in business are as a sole trader, a partnership or as a limited company. In addition you might be able to choose to set up as a limited liability partnership (LLP), a limited company not for profit, a social enterprise or a cooperative.

The way your business is set up will affect the way that you are taxed and the accounting records that you have to keep. Our business counsellors can offer advice in the first instance, but you may need to take specialist guidance from an accountant on the best option for your business. We can arrange for a free one hour appointment with an accountant if your business requires expert assistance.
